Good morning, Shepherd!
Thank you so much for taking such awesome care of us! Thank you for your mercy and compassion. Thank you for reassuring me this morning, and thank you for the awesome sweet promise you gave me! 😀
Jude 5-7 ERV
I want to help you remember some things you already know: Remember that the Lord saved his people by bringing them out of the land of Egypt. But later he destroyed all those who did not believe.
And remember the angels who lost their authority to rule. They left their proper home. So the Lord has kept them in darkness, bound with everlasting chains, to be judged on the great day.
Also, remember the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah and the other towns around them. Like those angels they were full of sexual sin and involved themselves in sexual relations that are wrong. And they suffer the punishment of eternal fire, an example for us to see.
Wow! I was just reading through some of the single-chapter books in the New Testament, and came across these verses. I was curious what the Greek actually says, because the wording here is so different from the King James, which is what I am most familiar with. I was stunned by the word which above is translated “full of sexual sin”. It is ekporneuo, from two Greek words: ek (“origin” or “from/out from”) + porneuo — which should sound familiar…! It’s no surprise that porneuo means “to play the harlot” and “to endulge in unlawful lust”. What surprised me is that is ALSO means “to practice idolatry”. I find this interesting because my husband recently learned that God hates idolatry and worshipping other gods more than just about any other sin. And these verses seem to say that idolatry — or sexual sin — is what caused the fall of not only Sodom and Gomorrah, but also of the angels in heaven…! I think this is one of those new truths that will take a while to digest… Help me see it clear and not be confused or misled, Lord!
