Genesis 2:20-25 ERV

The man gave names to all the tame animals, to all the birds in the air, and to all the wild animals. He saw many animals and birds, but he could not find a companion that was right for him.
So the LORD God caused the man to sleep very deeply. While he was asleep, God took one of the ribs from the man’s body. Then he closed the man’s skin where the rib had been.
The LORD God used the rib from the man to make a woman. Then he brought the woman to the man.
And the man said, “Finally! One like me, with bones from my bones and a body from my body. She was taken out of a man, so I will call her ‘woman.'”
That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife. In this way two people become one.
The man and his wife were naked, but they were not ashamed.

Wow, so VERY much is lost in translation with these verses — and others of course. The “companion right for” God’s hand-carved man is ezer neged = an AID that is his counterpart. Ezer = something that surrounds and protects, a helper. Neged = literally the “opposite part” the “other side” — and one word Strong’s uses is MATE. I haven’t studied it myself, but John Eldredge says that the only other time this phrase is used in the Bible, it is a picture of how GOD RESCUES man from himself — or something like that. He says woman is designed to be a rescuer for man, a true help, a true Mate.

Lord, I really do not know what my heart longs to say. I am grateful that your Spirit prays FOR me. THANK YOU. 🙂

Also, the Spirit helps us. We are very weak, but the Spirit helps us with our weakness. We don’t know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit himself speaks to God for us. He begs God for us, speaking to him with feelings too deep for words.
