Good morning, Father.
Thank you for giving me such a good, productive day yesterday. The tears are coming less frequently, although it is still very difficult when I come home and there’s no Tiny Friend all excited to see me, waiting to love me, and waiting for my love. I am finding it very difficult to be around my husband right now, Lord. I take responsibility and I ask you to please help me control my tongue and not add to the weight he carries, all his worldly worries. Thank you, Father.
James 1:25-27 ERV
But when you look into God’s perfect law that sets people free, pay attention to it. If you do what it says, you will have God’s blessing. Never just listen to his teaching and forget what you heard.
You might think you are a very religious person. But if your tongue is out of control, you are fooling yourself. Your careless talk makes your offerings to God worthless.
The worship that God wants is this: caring for orphans or widows who need help and keeping yourself free from the world’s evil influence. This is the kind of worship that God accepts as pure and good.
James 3:3-10 ERV
We put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us. With these bits we can control their whole body.
It is the same with ships. A ship is very big, and it is pushed by strong winds. But a very small rudder controls that big ship. And the one who controls the rudder decides where the ship will go. It goes where he wants it to go.
It is the same with our tongue. It is a small part of the body, but it can boast about doing great things. A big forest fire can be started with only a little flame.
The tongue is like a fire. It is a world of evil among the parts of our body. It spreads its evil through our whole body and starts a fire that influences all of life. It gets this fire from hell.
Humans have control over every kind of wild animal, bird, reptile, and fish, and they have controlled all these things.
But no one can control the tongue. It is wild and evil, full of deadly poison.
We use our tongues to praise our Lord and Father, but then we curse people who were created in God’s likeness.
These praises and curses come from the same mouth. My brothers and sisters, this should not happen.
Father, it is not my desire to curse anyone with my words or actions, especially my own self, my husband, and my children. Father, I ask that you purify my tongue. I know that I myself cannot learn of myself to control my tongue. But I know that nothing is impossible to YOU! Thank you for leading me, growing me, cleansing me, Lord. Thank you for being near me, even though I totally do not deserve it. Please forgive my inconsistencies, my screw-ups, and please help me learn from each one, so I can grow and not remain in one place. Thank you, Mighty Lord! 😀
